Why We Made this Film

Meeting our global climate goals will require a significant shift in our collective diets, especially amongst Americans. Beef production accounts for 60% of all the agricultural land on our planet, but makes up only 2% of the calories. It is incredibly unsustainable. Yet food often has deep cultural and social connections, and expecting people to magically become vegans overnight is a bit unrealistic in our opinion.

A trio of Harvard grad students has been working on a solution based on their research on cellular agriculture. Tender has developed a manufacturing platform that looks almost like a cotton candy machine, mixing soy proteins, dietary fibers, and other carbohydrates to create hair-like fibers that can be organized like muscle tissue. Using groundbreaking technology, they are creating meat alternatives that go beyond the existing plant-based burgers, enabling the creation of whole muscle cut products (e.g. chicken breasts) that look, taste, and feel like the real thing. Their goal is to make alternative meats delicious, nutritious, and affordable.
