Why We Made this Film

As we grow more aware of how our decisions impact the environment, it’s tough not to question some of the most common purchases. Currently, 15% of global deforestation is due to tree-based toilet paper and paper towels; that’s the equivalent of 40,000 trees cut down per day.

One Seattle entrepreneur has a solution: bamboo. Bamboo is one of the fastest-growing plants in the world, growing up to 3 feet per day while absorbing massive amounts of carbon during its growth. Once Ryan Fritsch saw the impact of the paper industry on forest ecosystems, he couldn’t unsee it. That’s why he co-founded Cloud Paper: Tree-Free Paper. Cloud Paper is taking advantage of bamboo as a renewable resource to create a sustainable alternative to paper products.
