Why We Made this Film

Today, the global capacity from wave energy technologies is small, but Marcus Lehmann is hoping to accelerate its growth with CalWave. The potential is high, as the average wave has more than 35,000 horsepower per mile of coastline and more than half of the US lives within 50 miles of the coast.

But developing a new source of energy is a bold proposition, especially when it’s deployed in the middle of the ocean. This type of ambition is what drew us to Lehmann and the CalWave story. Consider for a moment that global solar capacity has grown 600x in two decades while rapidly declining in cost; could this be the future of wave power?

In order to build a clean and abundant future, we’ll need to take huge shots on goal. Backing this vision is a deep team of investors, collaborators, and advisors who have a track record of inventing and deploying new technologies, such as the DOE, NREL, Activate, and the NSF to name a few.

We’re interested in riding this wave out and seeing where it goes.
